Tag that doesn’t end in a sprained ankle!

April 21, 2008

Engagemental has engaged me in a game of blog tag. Here are the rules she posted:

1) you link back to the person who tagged you.
2) post these rules on your blog.
3) share six unimportant things about yourself.
4) tag six random people at the end of your entry.
5) let the tagged people know by leaving a comment on their blogs

So let’s get started!

1. When I’m not paging through bridal mags and updating my blog, I like to spend my free time painting. Usually I paint with gouache (an opaque water-soluble paint that dries in a snap), but this spring I started an oil class, which I love. I love painting, but I only really started using gouache 4 years ago! This has been a lesson to me in terms of never thinking that it’s too late to learn something. So, especially if you are a person who draws a lot and you think painting is too hard to learn, it’s not! Like everything, it takes practice. This year’s holiday card (in gouache):

2. I am scared of going too fast which makes me scared of: roller coasters, skiing, go-carts and fancy cars. Yesterday A. and I went sailing for an hour in Jamaica Pond in Boston, and I kept getting mad when he would heel the boat for too long. I think this fear originates from the time I sustained a concussion after a teenage boy hit my own go-cart with his and sent me flying into a pole. Here’s the heavenly Jamaica Pond:

Does this mean that our getaway vehicle won’t be a sailboat? I can’t totally rule that out, certainly not after seeing these photos on tying the knot.

3. Maybe I went to too many Texan weddings during my childhood, but my ideal wedding day spread is a fajita buffet. Ah, the guac, the beef, the salsa… But I guess ‘fajita’ doesn’t really go with Victoriana-prep. Raw bar is prob more appropriate.

4. Thanks to my mother, I have become addicted to the Providence and Boston craigslist. Yesterday I bought a French easel (for landscape painting–never mind the fact that in 6 weeks I become a physician!) from the Boston craigslist. I check the furniture listings daily–sometimes multiple times a day!–for tufted chairs, down-filled ottomans, and a heavy dose of schadenfreude. Today I got a particular pleasure out of the listing that said the following: ” Many fine items, pick up only” Poetic isn’t it?

5. I picked out this dress for my engagement party. Isn’t it gorge? It’s from a strange store in Hartford, CT called B. Moss. Has anyone ever heard of it? The dress is 100% cotton, looks even better on–very cinched at the waist.

6. My fiance and I share the same first names as my father’s parents. Doesn’t this remind you of an Isabel Allende or Gabriel Garcia Marquez novel? Where the names keep repeating and take on additional surnames.
